Burra Wine District, SA

The Burra Wine District in the Clare Valley Wine Region, includes wineries near the townships Burra, Farrell Flat and Hanson, east of Clare. Located about 150 km north of Adelaide, Burra makes an ideal destination for long weekends, day trips and extended holidays and Burra is an ideal base for exploring the Claire Valley. Thorogoods Farmhouse Cider is open from 12 to 4.30pm daily for tastings of their wonderful ciders, sparkling wines and liquors. Redbanks Reserve, located about 15 km east of Burra is just perfect ‘outback’ experience. You can walk through the spectacular Burra Creek Gorge. There are spectacular wilderness areas to explore and lots to see and do along the walking trails. The area has good facilities including picnic and BBQ areas and camping sites at both. At Thorogoods, they strive to be organic in the orchard and chemical-free in the cellar which enables us to create a clean wine that is a supreme expression of the craft.
