Kuitpo Wine District

The Kuitpo Wine District includes wineries near Kuitpo and Meadows in southern areas of Adelaide Hills Region. The delightful town of Meadows in the Adelaide Hills boasts craft shops, and array of historic buildings, wineries with cellar doors and an excellent bakery. It is a thriving community with a wonderful lifestyle. Meadows hosts the famous Meadows Easter Fair and the Meadows Country Fair. Nearby is the Prospect Hill Museum that showcases the regional dairy industry and visitors casn see a re-built milk room The museum is open on Sunday from 2pm - 5pm. Many visitors are attracted to the magnificent Kuitpo Forest for bushwalking, camping cycling, bird watching and horse riding. The Meadows Monthly Market, which occurs on the 2nd Sunday of each month is a great opportunity to sample the local produce including: local wines. vegetables, fruit, plants, jams, honey and eggs, books, crafts, antiques and collectables. There are lots of stalls, entertainment, various displays and demonstrations, which vary each month. The Adelaide Hills is a great place for cosy pub meals, romantic weekends away, scenic drives and lovely nature walks. Children love the Adelaide Hills for the giant rocking horse, the wildlife parks and the National Motor Museum. After studying viticulture and wine in SA during the late 1970’s Geoff Hardy in 1980 purchased and developed the Pertaringa Vineyard in McLaren Vale with Ian Leask. At this time Geoff started looking through the southern Adelaide Hills for the ideal terroir for growing early premium wine varieties, as Mclaren Vale was too warm to grow elite Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. Finally in 1986 after looking at many properties Geoff found an ideal site for producing outstanding cool climate grapes in Kuitpo, an ancient geological area 15 kilometres inland from McLaren Vale.
