Hillston Wine District

The Hillston Wine District is located in the Riverina Wine Region in southern New South Wales. The district is centred on the rural service centre of Hillston which is north of Griffith and west of Lake Cargelligo and located on the banks of the Lachlan River, about 680 km west of Sydney. The area is a major region for sheep and wool and water from major artesian bores provides irrigation water for many food crops, including oranges, cherries, mangoes, grapes and olives. Some of the local attractions and activities include: # Birdwatching along the Lachlan River. # Visiting many of the local villages such as Merriwagga, Carrathool and Goolgowi # Waterskiing at Hillston Lake # Visiting the Willandra National Park # The Hillston Agricultural Show held in September # The Hillston Historical Museum.
