Darlington Wine District

This Darlington Wine District in the Perth Hills Wine Region includes the area around Darlington, Gooseberry Hill, Glen Forrest and Katamunda and is located about 40 km NE of Perth. The village grew around one of the first vineyards in the area which was established in 1884. That vineyard ceased operating in the 1920's but Darlington has since become a home for many local artists who enjoy the peaceful environment of the Perth Hills and to many new winery ventures. Darlington offers visitors a wide variety of heritage sites and plots of things to see and do. Central to Darlington is the famous Railway Reserve Heritage Trail, a re-used railway easement, covered in gravel, which retraces the 70 km long old Eastern Railway which was constructed from York to Fremantle in the 1880s and closed in the 1950s. This trail is now of the major tourist and recreational facilities in the Mundaring Shire. It is suitable for cycling, walking and horse riding. It features the beautiful scenery and the stunning plants and animals of the Darling Range. Visitors can leave the trail to visit the many wineries and other attractions along the way. Darlington has a friendly community atmosphere and features many arts and crafts galleries, wineries, cellar doors and historical buildings for visitors to enjoy and learn about the heritage of the area. The Darlington Arts Festival proudly showcases the rich lifestyle of the Hills community, bringing together art, food, wine, entertainment, music, shopping and lots of fun for the whole family!

The Perth Hills Wine Region includes eight districts : Inner Perth ; Bickley ; Darlington ; Chidlow ; Gosnells ; Jarrahdale ; Lower Chittering ; Upper Chittering
