Thirroul Wine District

The Thirroul Wine District is centred on renowned towns of Thirroul and Austinmer in the Illawarra Eine Region located about 70 km south of Sydney. The landscape is dramatic with the fabulous coastline and breaches framed by the steep escarpment that lies very close to the coastal corridor. The beautiful beaches at Thirroul and Austinmer are very popular with locals and visitors and these provide the major attraction for the district. The town has an interesting heritage linked with logging of Cedar and coal mining. Local attractions include: # Surfing at Sandon Point. # Bicycling along the Wollongong Cycleway that passes through Thirroul and the local bushwalking tracks # Enjoy browsing through many second-hand and antique stores and local arats and craft stores in iThirroul and Austinmer # Oskar’s Wild Bookstore and Coffee Bar. # Enjoy the fun at the Thirroul Seaside & Arts Festival held in April. The historic house of Wyewurk, the house where DH Lawrence once lived.
