Yarrawonga Wine District

The Yarrawonga Wine District includes wineries in the Lower Goulburn Valley Region. along the southern side of the Murray River, downstream of the Lake Mulwala Reservoir. The district includes the towns of Yarrawonga, Tocumwal, Starthmerton, Mulwalla, Numerkah, Cobram and Barooga. The combination of Lake Mulwala and the mighty Murray River and the tourist facilities of the twin towns of Yarrawonga (Victoria) and Mulwala (New South Wales) provide and aquatic sports paradise and a very popular holiday destination. There are wonderful camping, picnicing, water skiing fishing, canoeing, kayaking and sailboarding spots all along the river and the lake foreshore. The paddlesteamers Lady Murray and Paradise Queen offer delightful daily cruises on the lake and there are many operators offering hire boats, tours and cruises. You can learn about the rich heritage of the area at the Yarrawonga Mulwala Pioneer Museum, the Old Yarra Mine, the Yarrawonga Antique Clock Museum, Visitor Information Office and the historic Byramine Homestead. You can organise your own wine tour of the district and the neighbouring Rutherglen Region or join one of the many guided tours of the area. The area is very popular with campers water skiers, anglers, canoeing and kayaking enthusiasts, sailors, parasailers and power boat racers. The towns boast one of the largest (45 holes) golf course in the Southern Hemisphere and there are three major clubs where you can dine, wine, dance and enjoy many top bands and artists and other entertainment.

The Lower Goulburn Valley Wine Region includes three districts : Stanhope ; Yarrawonga ; Shepparton and this region adjoins the Nagambie Lakes Wine District and Region

Ulupna Winery is situated in the Goulburn Valley in Victoria, neighbouring Barmah National Park, amongst the Red Pepper trees and majestic River Red Gums. Nestled next to the Murray River, the mineral-rich alluvial soils and distinctive climate create a terroir unique to Ulupna. The name Ulupna identifies the location of the vineyard winery and cellar door. The name identified the local Aboriginal clan of the Yorta Yorta tribe, and historically was also the name of the wider region that is Ulupna. Possessing a number of meanings, the most commonly known being strong women. Goulburn Valley Wine Region dates back to the 1850s with some of the oldest Shiraz and Marsanne vines in the world. Wineries here produce award winning wines using the region's signature grape varieties, which were originally sourced from France's Rhône Valley.
