North Coast Wine Region

The North Coast Wine Region is a fascinating blend beaches, river lakes, rainforests, nature reserves, fabulous food, restaurants and above all fantastic attractions and activities. Its major asset is its magnificent coastline of warm golden beaches offering surfing, whale-watching, dolphins, boating, fishing, swimming and relaxing in the sunshine. The area is renowned for its creativity and attracts more than its fair share of artists, writers and musicians. The area has many world famous local festivals, farmers markets and entertainment festivals. The activities available are diverse and varied ranging from horseback riding to sky-diving, from ecotours to sailing and scuba diving. You can dine on the waterfront on the magnificent local seafood and wonderful range of local fruit and vegetables accompanied by crisp white and red wines from local wineries. The range of rich volcanic soils produce a wonderful variety of exotic fruits, tea, macadamia nuts, pure milk, aromatic coffee and excellent wine from local vineyards that offer cellar door tastings. Some of the best local activities include: # Climbing the huge sand dunes at Stockton Beach, on the coast north of Newcastle. #Tasting the fine local boutique wines and taking wine tours to the fabulous Hunter Valley Wine Region. Enjoying snorkelling and scuba diving in the magnificent marine world of Solitary Islands Marine Park, off the coast at Coffs Harbour. # Bushwalking and camping in the World Heritage-listed Barrington Tops National Park. Enjoying the local markets and cultural diversity. # Visiting the historic Trial Bay Gaol at South West Rocks and other heritage sites in the area. Local national parks include: Brisbane Water National Park; Barrington Tops National Park; Myall Lakes National Park; Sea Acres Nature Reserve; Dorrigo Rainforest Centre and National Park; Dorrigo Skywalk; Wollumbin-Mount Warning National Park. Some the local wineries include: Raleigh Vineyard and Winery, located south of Coffs Harbour on the banks of the Bellinger River - Raleigh, Red Tail Wines - Wingham, Sherwood Estate Wines - Kempsey, d`Esta Vineyard - near Taree.

The North Coast Wine Region is divided into seven districts for mapping and listing purposes: The local wine districts are: Coffs Harbour ; Kempsey ; Nambucca heads ; Bellingen ; Dorrigo ; Orara Valley ; Woolgoolga.
