climate The Flinders Ranges Wine Region includes wineries and vineyards in the spectacular destination of the Flinders Ranges, north of Adelaide. The major towns in the region area: Wilpena Pound, Leigh Creek, Woomera, Coober Pedy, Parachina, Arkaroola, Oodnadatta, Marla, Marree and Lyndhurst. The Finders Ranges are the easy way to access the Austrlian Outback, since Wilpena Pound the central heart of the Flinders Ranges is only four or five hours drive north of Adelaide, far closer than any other access to the Outback. The rugged beauty of the ancient eroded mountain ranges becomes a showpiece each spring with a spectacular show of native flowers. You can enjoy the many activities in the area and huge range of attractions. You can enjoy camping out, sleeping beneath the wonderful displays of stars, enjoy the beautiful sunsets. You can also hop aboard the Pichi Richi steam train for a memorable ride of a lifetime. Enjoy the outback county hospitality in one of the many local pubs in the area. Join a 4WD eco-tour and learn about the heritage of the area, the fauna, flora and geology of the southern Flinders Ranges. Generally the further north you go the climate becomes warmer and more arid. However under clear skies the winter nights can fall below freezing. Rainfall is low and highly variable.
