Lismore Wine District

The Grafton Wine District is centred around the historic city of Grafton in the Clarence Valley in the Northern Rivers Region of New South Wales. It is located on the banks of the mighty Clarence River and surrounded by fertile river flats It is located about 600 km north of Sydney. Just east of Grafton, is the spectacular Yuraygir National Park, which is a wonderful stretch of coast brimming with natural habitats, wildlife beauiful scenery, fantastic beaches, rugged headlands and great opportunities for ecotourism, bushwalking and camping. It also boasts a seemingly endless array of high dunes, pristine beaches, lagoons lined with paperbark trees, freshwater creeks that flow gently into the sea and some of the best coastal walking tracks in the State. The Clarence River is the largest river system in the area and Grafton developed as an important centre for timber and a variety of agricultural produce. Some of the local attractions include: # The Grafton Regional Gallery, featuring local highly talented local artists. # Schaeffer House, with outstanding collections of china, furniture and glassware. # The Jacaranda Festival, in October, that features gardens, boat races, music, lots of entertainment and street parades. # Old Schoolhouse Market, held on the last Saturday of the month. The climate is warm right throughout the year with a summer mean temperature range of 18 to 30 degrees C, and 7 to 22 degrees C in winter.
