Lake Cargelligo Wine District

The Lake Cargelligo Wine District is centred on the Lake and the nearby town and district, located about 550 km west of Sydney,. The area has an interesting heritage which you can discover at the Lake Cargelligo and District Museum, and by visiting the historic buildings in town. Lake Cargelligo was formed after the Lachlan River was regulated and became a water-storage reservoir for irrigation and water supplies to the town. Lake Cargelligo has a diverse bird population and you can get a field guide from the Visitor Information Centre and hire binoculars to see a wonderful range of bird. The lake is also very popular for recreation including: boating, canoeing kayaking, fishing, water skiing and swimming. There is walkway and cycle path right around the lake. The area is popular for water sports and fishing. Parts of Lake Cargelligo are bird sanctuaries.
