Swan Hill Wine District

The Swan Hill Wine District includes wineries and vineyards along the Murray River close to the towns of Beverford, Swan Hill, Lake Boga, Beverford, Lake Boga and Tyntyner South. In the early 1850s, a major wharf on the Murray River was built and Swan Hill became a major inland river port. The subsequent expansion of the railways lead to the decline of the river trade but the own grew with the development of irrigated agriculture in the area. Swan Hill and the surrounding towns are major regions for citrus farms and vineyards. The Murray River that passes through Swan Hill, has a number of delightful riverside parks. Tourists love the Pioneer Settlement, located at the junction of the Little Murray and Murray Rivers. This settlement includes a recreation of the atmosphere of a pioneer river port town and you can enjoy delightful paddlesteamer cruises along the Murray River aboard the restored P.S. Pyap which was built in 1896. South of Swan Hill is Lake Boga which is natural lake, which is about 3 km in diameter and has lake-side camping areas and swimming spots. It is an ideal spot for canoeing and kayaking.
